Job Description
KCUR needs a creative and ambitious journalist to take over one of our station’s most visible and influential on-air roles. Our next All Things Considered Newscaster will be tasked with building off the strong foundation that, in recent years, has established KCUR’s afternoon drive as one of the most competitive and top-rated news programs in Kansas City.
In your impact on-air and online, you will play a critical role in making sure KCUR has success daily in reaching and engaging our audience. You will be a key voice and face of KCUR’s effort to cement itself as a credible and dynamic news organization.
The ideal candidate will be able to work both collaboratively with staff and independently, exercising high journalistic standards and professionalism in all situations. We’re looking for someone with a conversational but professional on-air delivery, who can work rapidly under tight deadlines but still produce accurate reporting. You should be eager and able to do your own enterprise reporting and be comfortable working with other reporters and talk shows to contribute to KCUR’s overall news operations.
The ideal candidate will have radio experience, but we’ll consider strong journalists across all platforms. We’d like candidates who are comfortable communicating with people in a dynamic and diverse community. Characteristic duties include:
- Writes, edits and produces live afternoon newscasts between 3 and 6 p.m., under strict deadlines.
- Works with All Things Considered host to write and broadcast hourly live teases of upcoming newscasts.
- Identifies, researches, pitches, writes, reports, edits and voices a wide variety of spots, two-ways, and feature stories for morning and afternoon newsmagazines, local talk shows, regional networks and national programs (as appropriate).
Job Requirements
Preferrred qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a related field.
- Three years of experience in a public media or news organization, with considerable time spent preparing and delivering newscasts.
Salary range is $47,476 to $55,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
