Job Description:

The Organization – Texas Public Radio (TPR):

Texas Public Radio operates seven non-commercial radio stations. KPAC 88.3 FM and KSTX 89.1 FM broadcast to San Antonio and South Central Texas, KTXI 90.1 FM, broadcasting to the West Central Hill Country, KTPR 89.9 FM, broadcasting to the Permian Basin, KVHL 91.7 FM, broadcasting to the Highland Lakes region, KTPD 89.3 FM, broadcasting to Del Rio, and KCTI 1450 AM, broadcasting to Gonzales area. Texas Public Radio was organized in 1988 and formally incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization the following year. It is governed by a Board of Directors composed of residents from the service area.

TPR has fully opened its state-of-the-art downtown headquarters along the breathtaking San Pedro Creek Culture Park to the public, engaging new audiences, and activating multiple performance spaces in our facility. These include the Malú and Carlos Alvarez Black Box Theater, accommodating up to 200 patrons, and the John R. and Greli N. Less Charitable Trust Landing, the multi-use performance space accommodating up to 300 people. Also, we began offering our performance spaces to the community for public and private events.

Delivering unbiased and timely news is not just a profession or hobby, it is a passion of myriad of TPR reporters, editors, producers, and additional operational staff who work around the clock to deliver stories that inform, engage, and entertain audiences. TPR is grateful and honored when its tireless efforts are acknowledged and recognized for its professionalism and commitment. In FY23, TPR received 27 awards for its journalism. Most notably, Texas Public Radio was recognized for Overall Excellence in Radio Large Market for the second consecutive year by the Edward R. Murrow Awards bestowed by the Radio Television Digital News Association.

The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President and CEO will oversee all staff, operations, finances, and content of the station. This person will be both the lead external face of Texas Public Radio and its efforts, as well as a dynamic, empathetic, and inspiring internal leader, who will grow, develop, and evolve the organization.

Thus, the next President and CEO will be a seasoned, experienced, and mature organizational leader who is capable of developing, communicating and executing a vision and yet whose fundamental nature is one of team-orientation and collaboration. This individual will have run a nonprofit and will ideally have experience in digital, public media and radio. The President and CEO will see the opportunities with emerging technological platforms and will be curious how audiences receive different content on different platforms.

Demonstrated experience with, and knowledge of, nonprofit fundraising is key, as is a transparent and proactively communicative style, and the ability to listen, empower others and be present. This person will be both scrappy and not afraid to roll up their sleeves while being comfortable and collaborative in bringing people together. The next President and CEO will embody the values-based leadership style that TPR is known for.
