Job Description:

Bloomberg Industry Group is hiring an experienced investigative reporter to produce ambitious, impactful journalism for one of Washington's busiest newsrooms. If you have a history of reporting that has provoked change, we have an opportunity for you. Being experimental is key to success in this role. As is being collaborative -- you'll be joining a team of investigative reporters who prioritize journalism that can change laws and lives. The best candidates will have a track record of being well-organized and having a strong news sense. The reporter in this role will help to harness the strengths of Bloomberg Industry Group's growing newsroom to produce important work.

What you will do: 

  • Report and write news articles and breaking news alerts, often on deadline. 

  • Cover news as it happens, live and in person, including at courthouses, state legislatures, and other strategic locations within your assigned region.

  • Pitch, develop and write analytical pieces and feature stories on complicated subjects like tax and legal developments, making them accessible to readers 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes. 

  • Establish strategic relationships with sources, editors, news desk, etc.

  • Serve as a resource for other correspondents and Washington based reporters. 

  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.   


Job Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree with coursework in English or journalism preferred. 

  • 8-12 years’ experience in journalism, including at least one year reporting on subject areas covered by assigned publications. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of journalism principles and techniques. 

  • Knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes. 

  • The ability to cover events live as they happen and meet with sources in-person within the location being covered.
