Job Requirements:

The Atlantic is seeking an experienced full-time copy editor to join the newsroom. This person will copy edit articles ranging from daily coverage to longer-term features and projects, and will also copy edit social-media posts and other editorial material. This person may also have some fact-checking responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have a sharp eye for detail, a fine ear for language, a respect for individual authors’ writing styles, and an exceptional grasp of grammar, accepted usage, punctuation, and spelling. Additionally, a candidate should be able to prioritize when juggling multiple assignments, and adhere to high standards under tight deadlines. 

The ideal candidate has at least three years’ experience, comfort working in a fast-paced environment, and familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style. This person will also combine obsessiveness with nimbleness, collegiality, and a sense of humor.

The role will at times include night, early-morning, and weekend work. It could also involve a Tuesday–Saturday or Sunday–Thursday schedule. 

Salary minimum: $55K; Salary maximum: $65K
