The Missouri School of Journalism seeks a top-notch editor who has a strong foundation in the fundamentals of sports journalism but isn't stuck in the past. We seek an individual who’s ready to be part of an award-winning team focused on creating great journalists and great journalism.

Sound like a good fit? Then apply to be the Associate Sports Editor at the Columbia Missourian, the community news outlet operated by the Missouri School of Journalism. You will also be an assistant professor of practice, teaching both in the classroom and the newsroom.

You will work with some of the best journalism students in the country. You'll work one-on-one as an editor with these talented soon-to-be-professionals as they cover collegiate, prep and pro sports, and you'll also teach a course every semester. You will have real impact on the development of the next generation of journalists as a mentor and will help shape future beat reporters, feature writers and newsroom leaders. The Missourian newsroom works in text, audio and video, and as a teaching lab we’re always ready to try new ideas.

This is a full-time, benefit-eligible, renewable 12-month faculty appointment.

Job duties include:
Working with the sports editor and other newsroom editors to assign and edit a team of eager journalists, in both daily coverage, storytelling skills and in deeper enterprise work.

Organizing coverage of sports at the collegiate and prep levels, in addition to feature stories, special projects and other content.

Editing and producing the award-winning Sports section of the print edition of the Missourian, an average of three nights a week. This involves working with student reporters and photographers, designers and others throughout the newsroom.

Helping produce the digital sports products of the Missourian and other platforms in the school’s converged newsroom.

Helping organize and oversee a pipeline that brings new students into the sports department.

Teaching a journalism class every semester.

Other duties as assigned.

Shift: 1.0 FTE
This position requires working an average of three nights a week and weekends; work hours will vary depending on news coverage and production needs, which will be determined in consultation with the sports editor.
