ABOUT THE ROLE Inc. Business Media is looking for an ambitious, metrics‑driven Senior Editor to own and grow the Leadership section on Inc.com, a high‑impact, contributor‑driven franchise built around sharp perspectives, actionable insights, and authoritative voices. The Senior Editor, Leadership will manage and edit a large roster of columnists and freelancers, including a core group of high‑performing writers as well as a broader bench of contributors with meaningful potential.
The ideal candidate combines strong editorial judgment with a deep understanding of audience behavior and digital publishing best practices—and is energized by the challenge of scaling what works. This editor maximizes success through smart editing, clear coaching, disciplined performance management, and the recruitment of new, high‑potential voices.
This role will require weekly in-office presence on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at our corporate office at 7 World Trade Center, New York, NY.
This position is covered under the Writers Guild of America East Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Salary range: $88,500-$106,000 + bonus eligible. Compensation may vary based on relevant experience, skills, industry, and education.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING - Own the editorial and growth strategy for Inc.com’s Leadership section, with clear accountability for editorial excellence and traffic performance.
- Edit, optimize, and publish daily columns, ensuring content is sharp, authoritative, and positioned for maximum audience reach.
- Manage and coach a large roster of columnists and freelance writers, providing clear editorial direction, performance feedback, and best‑practice guidance.
- Analyze audience data and performance metrics to identify trends, opportunities, and underperforming areas.
- Share actionable insights with contributors on story selection, framing, headlines, formats, and timing.
- Recruit, evaluate, and onboard new columnists with strong expertise, distinctive voices, and audience appeal.
- Collaborate with audience and social teams to improve distribution, discoverability, and overall impact.
- Maintain Inc.’s editorial standards and mission across all Leadership content.
Job Requirements:
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR - 5+ years of digital editorial experience.
- Demonstrated success growing audience and traffic through smart editing and performance‑focused strategy.
- Experience managing, editing, and coaching freelance writers or contributors at scale.
- Fluency in—and enthusiasm for—analytics and performance tools such as Google Analytics and Parse.ly.
- Excellent editorial instincts, particularly around story framing, headlines, and audience relevance.
- Clear, confident communicator who can motivate writers in a performance‑based environment.
- Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable juggling daily publishing with longer‑term growth initiatives.
- Genuine interest in entrepreneurship, leadership, and the ideas shaping modern business.
