Summary:
Documented seeks a Policy and Strategy Director to help lead the organization’s expanding democracy project. This person will work in partnership with the Executive Director to lead cutting edge investigations into voter suppression, captured courts, and other efforts to undermine our democratic institutions.
An ideal candidate would have demonstrated leadership in directing work and developing innovative strategies aimed at protecting the pillars of democracy, including the right to vote and democratic representation. This is a senior position, and this person will ideally have an existing public media profile and relationships with journalists, campaigners, and policy makers in the democracy space. The Policy and Strategy Director would be joining a team committed to investigating and exposing the actors that seek to undermine our democracy.

Documented is an investigative watchdog and journalism project committed to holding accountable the powerful interests that undermine our democracy. Started in 2017, Documented has conducted groundbreaking and award-winning investigations into politicians, industry trade associations, political networks, and front groups. Our work has influenced congressional hearings, national media coverage, and corporate behavior. In 2021, our work exposing the groups behind the events of January 6th, documenting the right-wing opposition to HR1, and revealing the coordinated efforts to spread voter suppression legislation, has had significant national impact. Role & Responsibilities
While the exact job responsibilities are fluid day to day, the Policy and Strategy Director will be a senior leader within Documented and the national democracy movement as a whole. They will represent the organization in national media, develop a diverse network of allies and sources, conduct original research, and lead project teams.

The compensation for this position is in the range of $100,000-$140,000 commensurate with experience. We are a family friendly organization. We offer a generous and competitive benefits package, including health insurance, which includes vision and dental care.
