Job Number: 529993 Position: Assistant Professor of Digital Media and Emerging Platforms Effective Date: August 19, 2024 (Fall Semester) Salary: The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary is $5,405 to $11,994/per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $6,667 to $7,084/per month. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Journalism & Public Relations at California State University, Long Beach is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Digital Media and Emerging Platforms position.
Required Qualifications:
M.A. or M.F.A. in journalism, mass communication or relevant discipline
Professional experience in digital media
Demonstrated potential to teach undergraduate students in at least one of the following digital storytelling specialty areas: multimedia, video, audio, social media, augmented reality, virtual reality, data, artificial intelligence, 360 video, immersive reporting, and/or other emerging platforms
Demonstrated potential or excellence in teaching at the college level
Record of and/or demonstrated potential for successful research, scholarly and creative activities
Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in journalism, mass communication or relevant discipline. Degree at the time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2024.
Exceptional professional experience in media for at least five years
Achievement in scholarly research and publication
Prior college-level teaching experience, especially in journalism and/or digital media
Commitment to the student success and equity missions of the department and university
Experience successfully working with colleagues, students and/or communities from historically underrepresented populations such as, but not limited to, Latinx, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Black and/or Indigenous
Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body (demographics)
Duties:
Teach a variety of undergraduate courses (Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.)
Develop curriculum related to digital media and emerging platforms
Engage in original scholarly research that leads to peer-reviewed presentations and publications
Contribute to shared governance by serving on committees
Serve as a faculty advisor to a student club or media associated with the department
Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community
About the Department The Department of Journalism & Public Relations takes great pride in having one of the most diverse student bodies in higher education, with close 550 majors and minors studying in one of our four academic programs: Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations, Minor in Journalism and Minor in Public Relations. Digital Humanities and Social Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts The successful candidate will join a growing community of digital humanities and social science scholars in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA). The CLA is the largest college at CSULB, and it is home to more than 30 academic programs and degree options. Four CLA departments—Anthropology, Comparative World Literature, Journalism and Public Relations, and Sociology—will hire new faculty with digital expertise in Fall 2024.
