This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the HuffPost and Writers Guild of America East.

The Role

HuffPost is seeking a Culture Reporter who can provide sharp and quick pop-culture reporting and analysis, own our weekly entertainment newsletter, and help grow our regular audience for culture coverage. This team is based in New York City, but we are also open to remote applicants.

You Will

  • Keep up with an entertainment calendar to cover TV/film/music etc. in a timely manner.
  • Generate creative takes on the most talked-about entertainment stories, with an original angle.
  • Identify and cover emerging trends and social media moments and help define HuffPost as a destination for that topic.
  • Produce clean and structurally sound reporting and criticism.
  • Contribute news items and/or analysis for tentpole events including awards shows, heritage months, anniversaries, and other big moments in the pop-culture space.
  • Ideally, be comfortable with occasionally representing HuffPost at events and in the press.
  • Work with the audience team to package stories in smart and creative ways: sharp headline writing, SEO optimization, art and graphics selection, social media promotional language, etc.

You Have

  • Previous experience as a culture reporter with a demonstrated record of relevant, high-quality work on your beat or an equivalent field.
  • A big appetite for stories about TV, film, music, celebrity, and broader entertainment news stories. 
  • Passion to tell stories about diverse voices and communities and be able to add valuable analysis to complex news and issues that matter to HuffPost readers. 
  • Ability to parse through the viral stories on social media to highlight and smartly engage with the topics that everyone is talking about. 
  • Interest in how the business of Hollywood can affect our readers and why they should care.
  • A fun and curious spirit about culture and entertainment and can work independently and collaboratively.
