The Opportunity
OPB, on behalf of public media organizations across Oregon and Washington, seeks a creative, collaborative and highly organized editor to lead the Northwest News Network, a longtime collaboration that is being remade as a content-sharing partnership. The person in this role will work closely with editors at OPB, KUOW, KNKX, KLCC, Northwest Public Broadcasting and Jefferson Public Radio.  Your colleagues will be reporters and editors, and you’ll work closely with them to ensure the highest standards in audio and digital storytelling. In this position you will have the opportunity to collaborate with editors at public media organizations in both states and beyond to coordinate coverage and share great work. You’ll leverage your knowledge of the region and the industry to fill in gaps in coverage and cover stories nobody else sees. You will also have opportunities to bring in freelance work to support those efforts.

You’ll make your mark being a trusted news leader who can identify opportunities for reporting partnerships and run point on breaking news stories that rise to regional interest. And you’ll use your expertise to design systems to improve communication and sharing of stories across multiple organizations.

This is a new job coordinating the Northwest News Network, and the person in this role will work closely with news leaders at partner organizations to figure out how the reimagined team should operate and to turn our vision for collaboration into real, tangible results.  And you’ll also communicate regularly with editors at NPR to help identify stories and topics in the Pacific Northwest that rise to national interest.

The right candidate for this role has an appetite for news, a proven track record of successfully participating in or running a collaboration, and the organizational skills to wrangle stories from across the Pacific Northwest. Above all else, they’re committed to lead with curiosity and kindness.  If this sounds like you, we want to hear from you!
