Job Description

Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts invites applications for a full-time non tenure track position as an an Instructor or Artistic Assistant Professor of Broadcast Journalism, effective August 2025.
 
Dodge College seeks a seasoned broadcast journalist to enrich our faculty.  The ideal candidate will bring professional experience, academic knowledge, and a passion for nurturing the next generation of broadcast journalists.

Key Responsibilities
  • The successful candidate will teach four courses in both the fall and spring semesters, which could include an introductory class for freshmen, and a capstone class of juniors and seniors that produces a weekly newscast seen live on local cable, as well as other classes.  
  • The successful candidate will also serve as faculty advisor to undergraduate students within the Broadcast Journalism and Documentary major,
  • Serve on university and Dodge College committees and other projects as assigned
  • Maintain currency in the industry

Job Requirements

  •  
Qualifications
Required
  • Terminal degree or an MS with significant industry experience
  • Significant experience working in national and/or local  television newsrooms
  • Significant experience on digital and social media platforms
  • Produced significant work that has achieved national and industry recognition.
  • Multimedia journalism experience who can teach students the storytelling skills needed today:  videography, editing, social media, cross platform writing.
 
Desired
  • Teaching experience  
  • Solid understanding of investigative journalism 
  • Solid understanding of production demands of field reporting and live newscast production
