KERA is looking for a part-time Weekend Host and Programming Assistant to join the dynamic team at WRR – the classical station serving North Texas and the second-oldest operating radio station in the country.

POSITION SUMMARY: The host will be responsible for creating a compelling weekend show that creates a sense of place, connecting the music we play to our audience in North Texas. They will have an extensive knowledge of the artists and music played on WRR, helping to strengthen the musical identity of the station. The host’s main responsibilities will include hosting weekend air shifts and filling in for other shifts as needed.
This position is classified as FLSA non-exempt, and hours will not exceed 32 hours per week on average. The position reports directly to the WRR Assistant Program Director.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Host live and voice-tracked programming for a variety of weekend shifts
Fill in on an as-needed basis during weekdays and evenings
Work closely with the WRR Music Director and Assistant Program Director to edit and input music and program audio to expand the WRR music library on the ENCO automation system.
Participate in WRR on-air fundraising drives
Regularly create, curate and post music and programming content and engage audiences on WRR’s digital and social platforms
Attend and participate in local North Texas arts and station events, representing WRR in the community

2 years’ work experience in radio or broadcasting; with experience in media, music or related areas
Working knowledge of FCC rules and requirements
Aptitude for using digital, control room and studio technology along with editing and content management systems such as Wide Orbit, ENCO and Adobe Audition
A deep knowledge of classical music and artists that fit the noncommercial classical format and helps build a significant and loyal audience
Innovative, creative, an accountable problem-solver and team player
Oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft 365 suite
Experience with WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube
Ability to work onsite for some local events (including occasional weekends and evenings) as needed
BONUS IF YOU BRING:
Passion for and experience with the public broadcasting system and on-air TV or radio experience
Three years’ experience as a classical host
Experience with recording, editing and mixing of live performances.
SALARY RANGE: $20-$25 per hour, depending on experience

LOCATION: We support a hybrid working environment at KERA. We expect that this position will work out of our Dallas office at Fair Park at least 20% of the time and as needed for local WRR events (~1 day/week). Some occasional weekend and evening onsite presence may be needed.
