Position Description: The Producer plays a key role in crafting narratives that are engaging, informative, and relevant to the St. Louis region. They are a dynamic storyteller and on-camera talent who knows how to create content that highlights St. Louis’ rich history and its evolving future. In addition, this individual will provide content that informs, educates, and entertains, while also fostering civic engagement and pride. The ideal candidate understands the value of listening and paying attention to what’s happening in the community and is guided by what is learned to create compelling content online for social media and YouTube, as well as for broadcast programs and specials. 

Primary Responsibilities: The following primary responsibilities are vital to successfully meeting the expectations of this position in an effective and efficient manner. This is not an exhaustive list and areas of focus may fluctuate between the primary and secondary responsibilities, as needed.  

  • Create varying formats of content (vertical videos, shorts, stories, blogs, etc.) with platforms and audience in mind. 

  • Manage end-to-end production workflow (research, writing, and editing stories). 

  • Regularly listen and attend community events and pitch stories vital to the St. Louis region. 

  • Develop SEO titles, keywords, and metadata for content and projects, as well as providing clear direction for landing pages for key projects to create compelling, searchable stories. 

  • Upload videos to platforms such as YouTube and Media Manager along with required information. 

  • Ability to coordinate shoots and lead videographers and crew in needs for production. 

  • Interview people in multiple environments. 

  • Work with other producers to provide constructive feedback, share ideas, and lend perspectives to tell a balanced story. 

  • Be comfortable producing regularly (and on camera) for on-air and digital platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, X, and Instagram. 

Secondary Responsibilities: These are additional activities that are expected to be performed with this position.  

  • Work alongside content team to pitch innovative stories and creative concepts. 

  • Collaborate across departments and platforms to amplify all content created by local teams. 

  • Stay up to date on current events, people and organizations of the St. Louis region. 

  • Represent Nine PBS in events and public forums. 

  • Support development of recurring productions such as Donnybrook and Listen, St. Louis, as needed. 

  • Continuously enhance knowledge of production and digital platforms. 

  • Ability to produce content regularly on deadlines. 

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred with 3-5 years of experience, or Associate’s degree with more than 5 years of experience in Journalism, Production, Communications, Multimedia or other related fields. Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other MS Office applications. Must have experience with Final Cut X, project management, and product management. 

Hybrid Schedule: This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule. Expected to be in the office at least 2 days per week, attend all-staff meetings in person, and other events as required by Senior Director of Content.
