Job Description

Job Summary:
The Internal Communications Specialist drives internal engagement and communication strategies, ensuring alignment across GMF teams globally. Reporting to the managing director of communications and working closely with relevant functions including the executive office and HR among others, this role is key in connecting our people to our mission, values, and strategic goals by fostering, through communications with staff, a cohesive, engaging, and transparent work environment. Leads communication initiatives that enhance employee engagement and organizational culture.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Internal Communication Strategy: Lead the development and execution of an internal communication plan that aligns with GMF’s strategic goals, enhances employee engagement, and supports cultural cohesion across teams in the U.S. and Europe.
  • Content Creation: Create, edit, and coordinate the timing and mechanisms for internal content, including newsletters, announcements, executive communications, intranet posts, and other materials to keep staff informed and engaged. Help build an agenda and drive content creation for all staff meetings.
  • Employee Engagement Initiatives: Design and implement campaigns and initiatives that foster employee engagement, celebrate successes, and strengthen cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Change Management Communications: Partner with HR and leadership to create and deliver effective communications for organizational changes, ensuring clarity and support for transitions.
  • Executive Communication Support: Advise and collaborate with senior leadership to develop and distribute key messages, speeches, and internal presentations.
  • Measurement and Feedback: Regularly assess the impact of communication efforts through surveys, feedback channels, and engagement metrics, using data-driven insights to enhance strategy and approach.
  • Cross Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with HR, IT, and other departments to align internal communication needs and support organizational initiatives

Job Requirements

Knowledge and Skills Needed:
  • Experience: 5 years of experience in internal communications, employee engagement, or corporate communications, ideally within a nonprofit, think tank, or international organization.
  • Strategic Thinker: Proven track record in developing and implementing internal communication and engagement strategies that drive meaningful results.
  • Exceptional Writer and Editor: Ability to craft compelling, clear, and engaging messages tailored for diverse audiences and channels.
  • Change Management: Experience in change communication and navigating messaging for organizational transitions.
  • Project Management Skills: Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with intranet platforms, content management systems, and digital tools that enhance internal communication (e.g., SharePoint, Microsoft Teams).
  • Cultural Awareness: Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a diverse and international team environment.
 
Education: Bachelor’s degree
