Job Description

The Reynolds School of Journalism, renowned for national awards in diversity and innovation, invites applications for a creative and collaborative Assistant Professor of Film and Media Production. We seek an individual who will inspire students through teaching, creative work and/or research in film and media production while contributing to the school’s forward-thinking and interdisciplinary initiatives.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in film and media production, focusing on areas such as visual storytelling, documentary filmmaking, media production techniques, digital media innovation, script writing, and related fields. They will also play a pivotal role in shaping our interdisciplinary programs through collaborations with initiatives such as the Mick Hitchcock, Ph.D., Project for Visualizing Science, the Noticiero Móvil bilingual news service, the Reynolds Media Lab, and sports media production with the university’s athletic department. Candidates with expertise in emerging technologies (e.g., AR/VR, interactive storytelling) or culturally inclusive media practices (e.g., Spanish-language media, Indigenous storytelling) are strongly encouraged to apply.

This is a tenure-track, nine-month, academic-year appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. A terminal degree, e.g., Ph.D., MFA, or ABD, is required. Professional experience in film and media production is highly valued, along with a creative agenda that advances the field and contributes to interdisciplinary grant opportunities.

The Reynolds School has built a reputation for curricular innovation, entrepreneurial learning and a collegial climate for both scholars and practitioners. We operate the Noticiero Móvil bilingual news service, the Center for Advanced Media Studies that supports faculty scholarship, the Reynolds Media Lab production center and the Mick Hitchcock, Ph.D., Project for Visualizing Science, an interdisciplinary initiative that reimagines how science is communicated. The NPR-member stations and digital outlets of KUNR Public Radio are part of the Reynolds School.

Diversity, equity and inclusion are central to the mission of the School. Our faculty, staff and students strive to foster an environment that is conducive to exploring, engaging and expressing diverse perspectives and is respectful of diverse identities. Candidates will be asked to address how their work contributes to advancing these goals.

The scenic campuses of the University of Nevada, Reno, a Carnegie Research One institution, are located in Reno and Incline Village, on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. The Reno/Tahoe region is a recreational paradise, chosen by Outside Magazine as one of the nation’s Best Towns, with nearby world-class skiing and snowboarding, hiking, kayaking and mountain biking. The area is home to a burgeoning tech sector, with a vibrant food and arts scene.
